Jonathan proposed by staging an elaborate all-day scavenger hunt. He hired a camera crew to follow Sara around for the day and set up five clues for her to figure out. During one of the clues, one of Sara’s closest friends was waiting at the clue location, and joined in for the rest of the hunt. The very last clue referenced a wintery date in which they had visited the Christmas light show at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, Maryland. When Sara arrived at the gardens she saw Jonathan standing at the end of a long walkway leading to a gazebo filled with lights and strung with balloons. When she got to the end of the walkway, Jonathan launched into a prepared speech and proposal, but he was so nervous that when he finally got down on one knee, he forgot to take out the ring!
For their wedding, Sara and Jonathan planned a summer union at Glen Ellen Farm in Frederick, Maryland. The couple wed outdoors beside a stunning lake, and Sara’s bridesmaids dressed in ethereal pale pastel dresses in alternating shades of blue and pink. During the ceremony, rather than have a unity candle, the couple went with a unity plant. The mothers of the bride and groom brought forth soil from their respective homes to nurture the plant, and Jonathan and Sara watered it together.
The couple had prayed for no rain and plenty of sunshine, and that’s exactly what they got—it was the hottest day of the year! Luckily, they had traded in guest takeaway gifts for an ice cream truck.
Like many soul mates, Kimberly Chan and Gabriel Rosenberg attended the same college (Penn State) and even pursued the same major (kinesiology)—but no, they didn’t meet in a lecture hall or at a local college bar, or actually anywhere on campus. They graduated without having ever crossed paths, but fate brought them together not long after.
In the summer after graduating, Gabriel (who goes by Gabe) was hired to manage a health club in State College. When Kimberly (who goes by Kim) arrived there for an interview with Gabe, he was struck first by her beauty, and soon after, by her thoughtful responses to his questions. As the conversation progressed, he started to fall for her. “Needless to say, I got the job!” Kim jokes.
The meadow in front of the 1850’s Greek Revival manor at Glen Ellen Farm was the site of Kim and Gabe’s rustic outdoor ceremony. Pastels—like pale pink bridesmaid’s dresses and light gray tuxes for the groomsmen—complemented the green and white of the landscape and decor. Hydrangeas, roses, and silver dollar eucalyptus transformed the space into a lush spring garden.
